Stunning smiles for all ages.

According to the American Association of Orthodontists, it is recommended that children have an orthodontic evaluation by age 7. Early orthodontic treatment can prevent complex bite problems from developing, which requires a more extensive treatment or worse teeth extraction in the future. It will also ensure that there is enough space for the permanent teeth to come out, avoiding the need for orthodontic treatment when they get older.

At Mehan & Johnson Orthodontics, we will thoroughly evaluate your child to determine if orthodontic treatment is needed. We will never push any unnecessary treatments if not required.

At Mahen and Johnson Orthodontics, we perform the two-phase orthodontic treatment to provide efficient and personalized care for children and teens. Two-phase orthodontic treatment aims to create healthy, stunning smiles that will last a lifetime.

Phase One Orthodontic Treatment aims to correct the development of jaws and teeth and ensure enough room for permanent teeth is available. There will be a resting period where we will monitor and let permanent teeth emerge. Once all permanent teeth have erupted, we will determine whether or not Phase Two treatment is needed.

Phase Two involves correcting the alignment of teeth and establishing a good bite. Phase I usually occurs at ages 8 to 10. While Phase II usually happens at age 12+ and can last from 12 to 24 months.

More and more adults seek orthodontic treatment to achieve the smiles they have been dreaming of. Many of them are aware of how important having stunning, confident smiles can affect their day-to-day life interacting with other people at work, at social events, and even at home.

For many adults, metal braces are unsightly, or what they call having a “metal smile.” Thanks to orthodontic advancements! There are several options to fit your lifestyle and preferences for a more comfortable and efficient treatment, such as clear aligners and clear braces.

Invisalign®

More adults desire to straighten their teeth to improve aesthetics and overall health. And most of them don’t want to have the “metal smile” because of their profession or lifestyle. Thanks to Invisalign – the most innovative and pioneer of clear aligner systems. Adults now have the option to straighten their teeth discreetly with removable, clear trays that gradually move teeth to their ideal positions.

Teens are always on the move, busy with school activities, sports, and going out. Invisalign Teen works similarly to Invisalign for adults, except for one feature – the compliance indicator dot. With the compliance indicator dot, parents can track if their teens are wearing their trays for 20-22 hours daily. The compliance indicator dot will turn from blue to clear if the trays are worn for 22 hours.

Invisalign is an investment for a confident, radiant smile that would last a lifetime. At Mehan & Johnson Orthodontics, we want to ensure that every patient can afford their best smile without breaking the bank. There’s no one-size-fits-all for Invisalign treatment. Every case is different, and every treatment cost varies depending on the complexity of the bite problem and the duration of treatment. Our financial coordinator would happily discuss the cost during your first visit.

Braces

Metal braces are the most common orthodontic treatment to correct dental and jaw misalignments. It is the first thing that comes into your mind when you hear “braces.” Although it has been around for decades, they now use smaller, more comfortable, and more efficient high-grade stainless steel brackets. Children and teens love this option because they can pick colors for the elastics to show their personality or in time for holidays.

Clear or ceramic braces are one of the most popular options for straightening teeth in teens & adults. This is perfect for patients who want something fixed but less visible than metal braces. It uses tooth-colored brackets that blend with your natural teeth – making it look more discreet than metal braces.

This type of braces is called “self-ligating” because it doesn’t use colored elastics to hold the archwire within the brackets. It has a specialized door or clip mechanism that holds the archwire, causing less friction on the tooth than elastics. Self-ligating braces require fewer visits to our office because there are no elastics to change. They are also easy to clean because of their design. It comes in two different options: metal and clear.

Appliances

Elastics
Forsus
Carriere Distalizers
Separators or Spacers
Palatal Expander
Retainers

Your orthodontist will require you to wear elastics that come in different forces to move a specific tooth or group of teeth. You may need to wear some of this while eating to work efficiently. Remember to wear them as instructed by Dr. Mehan or Dr. Johnson.

Forsus is an alternative to headgear and is placed by Dr. Mehan or Dr. Johnson and can’t be removed except by your doctor. It is a spring appliance with a small rod to help shift the lower teeth forward and the upper teeth backward to correct cases of an overbite.

Carriere distalizers are the alternative to headgear. It is used to correct a bite without removing permanent teeth when there is a lack of space. It pulls back your back teeth to create space and start straightening your front teeth.

Separators are small O-rings that we place between teeth to create a space at your back teeth in preparation for placing orthodontic molar bands. They are usually kept in place for 1-2 weeks before your molar bands and brackets are placed.

A palatal expander is an orthodontic appliance used to slowly widen a narrow-sized jaw to gain additional space for permanent teeth. It is very helpful in correcting crossbites and overcrowded teeth. We will give you instructions on how to turn the screw and how often you need to.

Here at Mehan & Johnson Orthodontics, we offer two types of retainers: Hawley retainer and Clear Essix Style retainer. We will discuss which option will suit your needs and lifestyle. Your orthodontist will determine how long you need to wear your retainers, as it depends on every case.

In-Ovation®

In-Ovation is a self-ligating braces – a unique type of fixed orthodontic treatment. Unlike traditional metal braces, no colorful elastics are needed to hold the archwire. It has a built-in clip mechanism to engage the wire with less friction, causing more efficient tooth movement.

With no elastics that need to be changed regularly, this type of braces requires fewer office visits. With traditional braces, elastics put excessive pressure and friction on teeth which can slow down treatment and cause discomfort. With the In-Ovation system, teeth move freely and quickly. And in most cases, no extractions are needed!

Zoom Whitening

Once your braces are off, and you are keen to have a brighter, straighter smile, Zoom Whitening may be the answer for you! After wearing braces for years, you may notice some discolorations, especially where your brackets were placed.

Zoom whitening, an in-office teeth whitening treatment, is a safe, quick way to brighten your teeth in just a single visit. We can achieve 2-3 shades lighter for your teeth in a little over an hour. Zoom whitening removes deep-rooted stains and discolorations, achieving the stunning smile you have always wanted!

Here at NH Orthodontics, we have a lifetime retainer program to ensure that your investment in having a stunning, straighter smile won’t go to waste.
